Day-by-Day Details & Itinerary
Day 1
At 7:00 p.m., meet in the Harbor View meeting room at the Intercontinental Miramar Hotel for a welcome cocktail and dinner. There you'll meet your on-the-ground guide, Gail Geerling of Success in Central America. After a brief introduction to Panama and some tips from Gail and her team, you will meet an attorney whose firm specializes in offshore structures, asset protection, Visas, and Mortgage issues. You will also meet with a local banker for information about opening bank accounts and bringing funds to Panama.About the InterContinental Miramar Hotel Panama
Panoramic views of both the old and the modern city, coupled with an excellent location in the banking district and its proximity to the Atlapa Convention Center, make this hotel the best destination in town. InterContinental Miramar Panama epitomizes the capital's cosmopolitan style with a striking tower in the financial district. Views of the Pacific Ocean showcase vessels coming through the Panama Canal, which is only eight kilometers (five miles) away. The main shopping malls, Atlapa Convention Centre, and Casco Viejo (the old city) are also nearby.
Day 2
We'll meet for an early breakfast at the InterContinental Miramar Hotel, and take a day's tour to Ancon Hill, Casco Viejo, Panama City, and the Amador Causeway. We'll get the lay of the land and see some good-value real estate along the way.
We'll have dinner in one of Panama's spectacular local restaurants. Overnight at the Intercontinental Miramar
Day 3
We'll have an early breakfast and head out to Allbrook Airport for our flight to David. We'll drive from there to Boquete and check into our hotel in this flower-filled mountain enclave. We'll spend the day exploring the local real estate market and meeting key contacts on the ground. This is one of the more mature "expat" retreats in Panama, and so it's a place where you have lots of choice in properties. It's not the flat-out cheapest place to live in Panama … but it's arguably the most comfortable if you're looking for a cool-weather escape. There's lots to do and you'll never lack for company. We'll have dinner as a group. Overnight in Boquete.
Day 4
After breakfast, we'll leave for David to catch our return flight to Panama City. When we arrive, we'll cross the Bridge of the Americas and view properties in Panama City's environs. We will see the world-famous Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal, view a golf course community in the reverted Canal Zone, as well as a Master-planned area just across the Bridge of the Americas. And we'll stop, too, at an Artisan's Market, where Panama's indigenous tribes sell their handicrafts.
We'll have lunch along the way and return in the early evening to the Intercontinental Miramar, where we'll stay for the rest of the trip. Dinner is as a group at another fine restaurant.
Day 5
We'll have breakfast in main dining room at the InterContinental Miramar.
Then we'll leave for Panama's Caribbean coast. We will visit Portobelo, rich with pirate history and an historic UNESCO World Heritage site. Then we'll head next to La Guaira, where we'll be among the first to tour an early property opportunity in this area. We'll learn what areas of the Caribbean coast are likely to hold value better than others – and why. We'll discuss what it takes to open a new market, and how to get a good idea of whether or not a developer will complete a project as planned. Lunch is included at a Caribbean seafood restaurant on the water.
We will return to InterContinental Miramar in the late afternoon and you'll have some time to relax before we meet for dinner at a brand new local restaurant, where we'll discuss emerging markets real estate, and how to track their progression.
Day 6
After breakfast, we'll head by bus to Coronado and the nearby beaches. This area of Panama's coast has long been a weekend and holiday haven for Panama City dwellers, but is emerging in its own right as a year-round living community. We'll see various properties in this area, from those under construction to those ready to move into.
We'll have lunch along the way, and return in the evening to Panama City and the InterContinental Miramar. We'll have dinner as a group this evening as well.
Day 7
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel at your leisure. This day is free for you to meet with bankers, developers, real estate professionals, etc. Please let us know early in the week if you would like to schedule visits to the bank, the attorney, souvenir shopping, day trips, etc. and we'll help you get it all arranged.
Around 6:00 p.m., we'll take a trip to show you what a typical grocery store looks like, so you can get a sense for the kinds of products available and prices, too. Then we'll head to the Multiplaza Mall, an upscale shopping center in the heart of Punta Pacifica. While there, you will have a half hour to wander and grab any souvenirs you like. Then we will all meet on the upper terrace for our farewell dinner at one of Panama City's innovative restaurants. Overnight at the InterContinental Miramar.
Day 8
Breakfast will be served at the Intercontinental Miramar. And then we've arranged for your transport back to the International Airport. If you'd like to extend your stay, however, you're more than welcome to. We'd be happy to help you plan additional excursions or simply arrange for an extended visit in Panama City. Simply let us know.
(Schedule and speakers are subject to change.)
Note: We are also arranging an add-on to see the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua.
